10,000,000 steps from Odigo, €10,000 for Médecins Sans Frontières

Odigo is proud to announce the success of our recent initiative – a challenge to walk 10,000,000 steps and raise €10,000 for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) in India
10,000,000 steps from Odigo, €10,000 for Médecins Sans Frontières

July 8, 2021 – Odigo prioritizes employee health and wellness, which is of particular importance given the number of employees who work remotely. A few weeks ago, our Odigo Culture ambassadors, who are dedicated to developing and promoting company culture across departments and countries, launched a challenge with the aim of fostering healthier lifestyles. Then an opportunity arose to give back to a community with crucial health needs.

Supporting our partners in India

Odigo had been looking for ways to aid the COVID-19 relief effort in India, one of the countries most impacted by the pandemic. This hits close to home for us, as nearly 200 employees of our key R&D partner, GlobalLogic, are based on the subcontinent.

Our Odigo Culture ambassadors established a collective goal to the fitness challenge that supports the Indian branch of Médecins Sans Frontières, which operates in two cities where the GlobalLogic teams are located: Delhi and Bangalore. Odigo pledged to donate €10,000 if our employees across the globe could walk a combined 10,000,000 steps. As it turned out, 10,000,000 was just a warm-up.

Surpassing our goal

Odigo is delighted to announce that a total of 109 participants from 23 teams in France, Spain and the UK, took 22,694,237 steps during the three-week challenge – a distance of over 15,000 kilometers. For doubling their original goal, Odigo contributed an additional €5,000. Together, we earned a total of €15,000 for Médecins Sans Frontières in India.

The challenge resonated with GlobalLogic, Médecins Sans Frontières, and Odigo participants alike.

“As a global company with a significant footprint in India, GlobalLogic was very focused on employee well-being during the recent COVID wave,” says Shashank Samant, President and CEO of GlobalLogic. ”We were so pleased to see Odigo’s generous donation to Médecins Sans Frontières to directly benefit the people of India in a time of dire need. We are proud to have an amazing client like Odigo, who believes giving back is an essential part of their mission as a corporation.”

Médecins Sans Frontières is on the front lines of the battle against COVID-19 in India, providing assistance to patients while many hospitals are overwhelmed by the recent second wave.

“Even though we are a small part of a big operation, our job is very important. Increasing the quality of care these patients receive and managing them well with oxygen in the facility means less people will need to go on to ventilator care,” says Dilip Bhaskaran, Project Coordinator for Médecins Sans Frontières.

For Odigo employees, the challenge was a chance to put values into practice. Christian Uchet, Operation Delivery Manager for Odigo, talked about his personal connection to the country. “I visited Ladakh and Rajasthan in 2018 and I was impressed by the people’s solidarity and resilience. When I heard about Odigo’s challenge to help India with Covid-19 it made sense for me to mobilize by walking free and paying homage to these values and philosophy! I am very proud to be part of it with my team. We had a lot of fun; we were challenged by Odigo teams in every country to help India and also to reach our goal in a strong, competitive spirit.” Read more about Odigo’s community outreach programs.
